CA Blogging Assignment 8

My academic skills like researching, reading, writing or discussion have improved through the ELP class in this fall term. The most improvement of my academic skills is work citation. I have few experiences of work citation before university but MLA was really difficult and annoying for me. However, through this term, I learned the method to do it then it became not hard as before. Also, I learned some useful databases in this term. Especially, LexisNexis really helped me to research information which relevant to my essays. With information from the database, my essays become more convincing. It will help me further studying in the future. However, Annotation is still a little bit pain for me but my skill of annotation is getting better so I would like to practice it because I know annotation really helps me to understand the text. Therefore, I think my academic skills improved.

CA Blogging Assignment 7

I think that his meaning is that technology progresses always have risks of danger and the risks could be real or not; it depends on how people use new technologies.In my opinion, people are not intelligent as they think. My history teacher says "History is the pile of the worst choices." People surely made wrong decisions on technologies, such as atomic bomb. I hope that people will be more intelligent and have better moral and knowledge of ethics about technologies.

Garreau defined the future which has three types of people, "Natural", "Enhanced" and "The Rest" as "the law of unintended consequences". For me, this future can have a lot of consequences in either good or bad way. One of the consequences I think is that discrimination between those three types. The reason for this that we still have a lot of discrimination among many classifications. There can be some "Natural" people who hate "Enhanced" people since "Enhanced" people are modified by genetic engineering and vice versa. Also, "The Rest" people who cannot have choice of "Natural" or "Enhanced" will likely to embrace complex. Therefore, "the law of unintended consequences" means to me that there is more possibilities of social problems in the future.

The new thesis statment for my essay 2

My new thesis is "The freedom of speech plays important role in democracy but the censorship done by government all over the world, including Japan, endangers the freedom of speech and democracy itself. " I guess I still have to make this more specific.

CA Blogging Assignment 5

My topic for Essay 2 will be "Big Brother", which is the censor ship by the government. I was shocked when knowing that Big Brother is not fictional anymore since Japanese government are trying to control information not only in mass media but on Internet. What is more, Japanese government and Tokyo Denryoku are trying to hide the fact of the nuclear reactor in Fukushima from citizens. Also, this is violating freedom of speech and against democracy. We should be living in democrat society but do we? My thesis statement will be that "In many countries, including developed countries, censorship is done by the governments and people worry about their freedom of speech and democracy sustainability in the future."

CA Blogging Assignment 4

In my opinion, "enhanced" students in the book make me feel kind of disgust.  I wonder that is it right to 'create' such people.  It would be nice if I can learn like them because I always wish to study many things in short time. However, I feel that there is a limit on people's mind. I say, there should be the limit since technology always left ethics behind and I believe that without the limitation, the gap between technology and ethics will became winder and wider.

Blogging Assignment 3

The modifications to the human genome currently being studied and experimented with will eventually change human nature in the following ways. I think the studying on human genome will change the way people think what human is. We currently do not think human as object. However, modifying genomes such as designing ideal baby by controlling genes will likely to change our way of thinking. If people will be able to select baby, people will think as object.
